Spark Arena Trip!

 Spark Arena Trip!

Hello Fishies! For this amazing and fun post I will be talking about the year 6s Spark Arena trip. The year 6s went on the bus to the Spark Arena for free! The CEO of spark arena, Brendon Hines organized this very expensive trip for us. Royal Road school and Lincoln Heights School also came with one of their classes/years. We had 3 exhibitions set up, one was for the public and the other 2 were set up just for the schools. The 3 exhibitions names was the Happy place, Van gogh and sounds fun also we had 30 minutes at each exhibitons. Theres one more exciting thing, we had the famous Suzy Cato there as well!

The first exhibition we went to was the happy place! In the happy place we started off by diving into a ballpit! The ballpit was taller than most students by an inch and only 4 people got to go down at a time. The ballpit was also hard to get out but really fun! Next we had 3 small boxes to take pictures in! One of them had chains every where, the next had a tub with rubber duckies on the walls. The last one had glittering silver walls on it as if your a popstar. They also had 3 other big rooms! One was an room with a unicorn, another was an upside down room and the last one was a chocolate chip cookie with the chocolate chips being doors. There was another room that we had to wait for, the room had lots of pretty flowers in it. My most favourite and last room was the room with a dome. The dome had confetti in it and we all jumped around and played while the wind from underneath!

Sounds fun was the next exhibition we went to. In the room we got to play with different kind of instruments like trumpets, trumbones, eletric drums and stuff like that. There was also stuff like keyboards and drum pads to play on. I would say it was like 4 stations. The Keyboard/drum pads station had a tablet and keyboards/drum pads set up so you can take lessons on how to make music using keyboards/drum pads. They had a station where you learn to use trumpets and trombones. Apparently they use thing small tubes that go into the trumpet/trombones to make sounds! 2nd to last station was the station with the electric drums. People learnt how to make music with the electric drums but I didn't go on it so I don't know much. The last station was the station where you got to play with some drum pads and keyboards while making music at the same time. That was really fun!

The finale exhibition was the Van gogh exhibition. If you don't know who Van gogh is he is a famous dutch artist who painted the famous starry night. There were 3 rooms in the exhibition, one of the rooms was the main one where his art was displayed with information about it for you to see. The other room was a giant black room that displayed the art on many screens, there was even a moving picture connected to all the screens! The prettiest room was the sunflower room. The sunflower room was tiny and had lots of artificial sunflowers everywhere with mirrors as walls! We didn't get to stay in it because it was just a walk through space.

The people there made us a packed lunch which included a sandwich, apple juice, an apple and a chip pack. There was a vegetarian sandwich for those who are halal or can't eat meat. I think that was the best trip so far! I hope we get another chance like this. Blog you later fishies!

Swimming at cameron pools!

 Swimming at Cameron Pools!

Bonjour Fishies! For this post I will be talking about the Cameron pools swimming lessons we are having. In this term we are having swimming lessons every tuesdays and thursdays from week 1 - 5. Only year 3 - 6 students get to go to cameron pools. The middle school swim in the nans pool and we seniors swim in the big pool where its deeper. For the seniors we have been split into 3 groups and we have 3 instructors. The instructors names are Jasmine, Alisha and Britany. My instructor is Jasmine!

We started off by going over the basics like how to float, backstroke, freestyle and more like those using flutterboards. After going over the basics we started going into more advanced stuff like breathing while swimming, swimming on one side, swimming on your tummy then turning and so you get the idea. We also do dolphin dives but thats only at the end of swimming time. My favourite swimming technique is the one where you have to swim on your tummy then turn on your back beacause I think it's fun. I wish we could have more swimming days.

Blog you later!

"A day in the trenches"

 "A day in the trenches"

The teachers locked us out and the doors and all blinds were down but after a while we were let inside, it was pitch black and we saw.... STRINGS everywhere! For ANZAC day the teachers made a surprise for us by making us feel what it's like in being in a trenchs from war times. The string was the mark for the trench and we had to crawl under it but if you went over the string that ment you got shot. The things we need were our art books, pen, ruler, rubber and a pencil. We had 10 lives and if you got shot you had one less also if you lost all your lives the teachers would've made you do things like make their lunch!

We did school work under the trenches by starting off with maths. For maths we did a basic facts test and while we were doing it the teachers played bomb explosions and gunfire sounds! People were starting to get distracted with the sounds and I think I did less then my last basic facts test. For writing we wrote a letter to someone in our family about being in the trenches and how it felt. For stuff the fruit break we just had to pass the fruit box and compost bin around the syndicate.

Halfway through everyone got sore knees and elbows but it still wasn't over. We also did art were the teachers would say a story and we have to draw the scene, we had to draw 12 scenes for art. After this we unravelled all the strings in pairs. My favourite part of the day was maths because I actually like maths tests. It must've been very hard for the soldiers that fought especially how they fought for years!

I think that this day of learning about ANZAC is my favourite day of the year so far! Bye bloggers.

Netball

Netball!

Pass it to me! Kia ora Everyone! For term 1 we learned about a sport called netball, netball is a sport about teamwork and strategy and it is really fun! We had Joselina and Olivia come to our school on wendsdays and teach us netball. To start off with we learn't about the rules in netball like staying 1 metere apart when someone else is shooting but the most important rule in netball was that you cannot move with the ball! We started doing the basic stretches like high knees, bum kicks and sprinting then we did dynamic stretches like Squats and lunges! For the first few weeks we started to learn about skills like passing and piviting. If you don't know what piviting is its when you keep on foot on the ground and the other foot twists around so you can pass the ball to the other side if you need to.

After learning these skills we played different games, one of them was called golden child. Golden child is when you have 2 teams, the runners and the shooters. The runners have to run around the court to get to the other side while shooters are trying to shoot the ball in the hoop. If the ball gets in the hoop while your running you have to stopin your place. The golden child is at the back of the line and when its their turn they will tap the people stuck on the shoulder while their running and you have to run to the end with them. If someone shoots a goal the runners lose but if the runners make it the shooters will lose!

We played lots of other games and we also played a real netball game. There was a bib team and non bib team. The caller will call a number of people like 5 or 4 and those people have to try score a goal in the other teams hoop. My favourite part of netball was playing the actual game! Blog you later!

Family Fun day!

 Family fun day

Salaam Everyone! On the 19th of march we had a family fun day where everyone wore their house colours and we did fun activities at school! We had 4 activities, all of the activites were really fun. Some activitys included water in them so we had to bring 2 change of clothes, togs and clothes that we could get wet in. The acitivties were inflatables, iflatable water silde, slippery slide and wheels. There was also a bake sale going on in the staff room, so parents and students could buy cakes to eat! We were all seperated into our house groups to to do this rotation.

There was Pukeko - Green, Tui - Yellow, Kea - Red and Ruru - Blue. I am in Ruru who went to the wheels first, we could bring our own bike, scooters, rollerblades and other things with wheels. If you didn't have wheels you could use the schools bike and scooters or play with the magic play box. There were also other options if you didn't have wheels like the sandpit or bring a toy car and play with them. Eventually halfway people started going to the bake stall to eat some cakes so there were only a few people left but they all came back and most of them went to the magic play box.

Next up was the infltable obstacle course! the infltable was an obstacle course where you could race your friends and go through obstacles. This was only 1 of the inflatables, there was 1 more you had to go through after going through the first one. The first one was a big inflatable and the 2nd one was a small inflatable.

The pool and slippery slide were also good. In our house groups we were seperated in 2 groups, 1 group went on the slippery slide and the other group went in the pool, then we rotated. I didn't really like the slippery slide because after sliding I was cold waiting in line.

Last activity was the inflatable water slide. The inflatable water slide had a pool attached to it so you will end up in cold pool. I also didn't like this because the grass got really muddy and it was really cold once you got out. There was also a dry bouncy castle for those who didn't bring their change of clothes. I think my favourite activity was the bouncy castle race. It was a really fun day, blog you later!

Tsunami

 Tsunami

Kia orana fishies! For this fridays post I'm going to talk about the tsunami warnings last week. Last week friday all phones recieved a message about a tsunami warning at least 2 times that day. People in the coast had to evacuate to the nearest hills to make sure they were safe. Some phones recieved their warnings on time and many others didn't get theirs until 1 or 2 hours later! The 1st time I got a warning was scary even though it was daylight the phone started to vibrate on the table before the alarm came.

We talked about having an emergency backpack for times like this. We brainstormed lots of ideas like having non-perishable food and big bottles of water. Most people in our syndicate didn't have a emergency backpack to grab on the go so we made a list of items that we should have in a emergency backpack.

Emergency Backpack:

Phone + Portble charger or Charger bank

Big bottles of water

Non-perishable food (Like crackers abd muesli bars)

Toilet paper

First aid kit

Umbrella

Batteries + Torch

Radio

Bug repellent

Entertainment (Like cards)

Do you have an emergency backpack ready to go for your family?

Lockdown 4

 Lockdown 4

Kia ora fishies! This was the 4th time we had lockdown so I'm going to talk about how we learned from home and what I felt during lockdown 4! I felt sad that we were going into lockdown because then you can't play or see your friends. To start off with, my favourite learning activity was in maths! It was a online worksheet called nasty-as problems. I had to write my learning in my book and then put my answers into a google doc. I liked this activity because it was long and challenging! I had to get up at 8am every day so that I can get onto the class meet on time. I skipped some google meets though. I had to get my work done by 4pm so I could be marked!

One of my favourite family activity was watching a movie together on netflix with popcorn and drinks!
I feel happy coming to school because you get to do more fun stuff at school with your friends. I also liked lockdown because you can stay home and do lots of things like sleep, bake and try science expirements!
