Te Huarere

 Te Huarere

The weather

Kia orana fishies! Today I'm going to tell you about the activity, Te Huarere that I did as another task for the summer learning journey. Te Huarere means the weather so I had to copy a slideshow, then i had to complete all the tasks on that slideshow like rearranging māori words to make a sentence. After rearranging I picked words from a slideshow to make a sentence like Te rangi hauaua which means a cloudy weather! We also had to make a screencastify but it but I didn't want to. Here is a slideshow of my work!

Bye Fishies!

Kiwi Jingle Bell

  Kiwi Jingle Bell

Bonjour Fishies! Today I'm going to tell you about the kiwi jingle bell task I did for the summer learning journey. I had to listen to this song called kiwi jingle bell then I copied a slideshow and made my own lyrics to the same tune of Jingle Bell. There were 5 slides I needed to make lyrics on. I named my song Christmas Mountains. I think this is the hardest task for me in the summer learning journey!

Pigpen Cipher!

 Pigpen Cipher!

Ola Fishies! Today I'm going to be telling you about the exciting pigpen cipher code I did. This pigpen cipher code is from the summer learning journey, I had to watch a video about pigpen cipher and cipher a code that was on a slideshow. I solved the code and made my own one. I had to make one about a beach but my keyboard didn't have all these symbols so I used a pigpen website to help translate my words into code. Pigpen code is a type of code that represents symbols. To help we use tic tac toe grids and cross grids! I think this is the best summer learning journey task there is.

Bye fishies.

Optical Illusion Summer Learning Journey

 Optical Illusion

Summer Learning Journey

Talofa Fishies! Today I'm going to tell you about the optical illusion I did for the summer learning journey. If you don't know what an optical illusion is it is a picture or a illusion that looks like something but is something else. I drew a illusion with a pencil on a piece of paper called hole in the floor, I took a picture of it then made a DLO (Digital Learning Object) to explain how my illusion works. The illusion is really easy to make, why don't you try it?

Bye fishies!

Slip & Slide!

 Slip & Slide!

Kia ora Bloggers! Today I'm going to tell you about the Slip & Slide we did! During school in the middle block we got split into 2 groups. One group would go swimming in the pool and the other group went to do the Slip & Slide. If you don't know what a Slip & Slide is, it's a homemade slide down a hill or slope. You need dishwasher soap, a hose and a plastic roll. To make the slip & slide you need to roll down the plastic and get a bucket, fill the bucket with dishwasher soap and water. Make sure it over fills and keep the water running, that way it will make the plastic watery and soapy, then SLIDE! I loved the slip & slide but it was cold when I was waiting in line.

Mindfulness!

Mindfulness

Talofa bloggers! This time I'm going to tell you about our 4 mindfulness sessions that we have had. We finished our last mindfulness session on Tuesday the 8th of December. We had Whaea Stefanie came in and taught us different breathing exercises. Some of the breathing exercises were candle breaths, balloon breathes and more. Candle breath is when you breathe through your nose and exhale through your mouth, balloon breathes are when you breath though your nose and fill your tummy with air then take a big exhale out your mouth or nose. My favourite breathing exercise was the balloon breath! Maybe you can use these exercises to help you if you're mad or sad.

Bike Skills!

Bike Skills!

Namaste bloggers, today I'm going to talk about the bike skill lessons we had! We had bike lessons for 2 weeks and 4 people came from Big Foot. Big Foot is a company that goes around and teaches schools about biking. We had Holly and Shelly come for the first week then Josh and Ella in the second. The first week we learn't how to check our helmets and bikes with Holly and Shelly. Then we learn't about gears and how you can switch then to make peddlading harder or easier. The second week we played loads of fun games with Josh and ella but my favourite game was The Box. Holly and shelly explained to us that this is only grade 1 and when we get to intermidiate we learn grade 2. I can't wait to get to intermidiate!

Skateboarding!

 Skateboarding!

Guess what we skipped maths to do... SKATEBOARDING! We are having 2 sessions today. The 1st session  in the morning and the 2nd  in the afternoon. Aren't we lucky? Our 2 instructors Ben and Lawrence, taught us lots of different tricks. They taught us how to get on and ride on it then split us into different groups. My group was with Ben and we learned how to do lunges, crabwalk and lots of other tricks. Then he taught us how to turn on a skateboard. We did some balancing tricks and one of them was to touch the nose (front of board) with 1 hand, it was tricky but I got it. We also had freetime too, we skated around and used the ramps we had.

When we came back we had a discussion about 3 different areas to do with skateboarding. The first one was: what was great about the lesson? What was challenging, next was: what have we learn't, and the last one was: what have we gained from learning to skateboard. We had different ideas for each section and we also had to learn about the growth and fixed mindset for skateboarding. The gorwth mindset is when you say something in your mind like you can do it, you will get this trick right, and something like that. The fixed mindset is when you  think bad stuff if your mind like ugh I can't do this, I will never get this right. Only a few people had a fixed mindset.

I have my own skateboard at home but skateboarding is really fun and you should try it! I really enjoyed doing all the tricks but my favourite thing was learning how to turn! Bye bloggers and try skatebording!

2020 Production!

 2020 Production!

Talofa Lava Fishies🐟!

Today I'm going to talk about our 2020 school production. The production is called Jasmine & Aladdin, its like the movie Aladdin expect it has twists in it. To get parts in the play you have to be year 5-6 but if there are no more roles you have to be in the year 5-6 dancers. Years 0-4 will only get to be dancers. During the show each class will come up on stage and dance to their song. We had parents buy tickets for the for the show. There were only 2 night shows and a day show. All of the night tickets were sold out but we had more day shows tickets left. I think this was the best production ever!

Wonder Project, Test Flights!

 Wonder Project, Test Flights!

Ola everyone!

Today I'm going to talk about the test flights we did on wednesday 16th of September. After we finished our rockets we went outside to the front of the field to launch our rockets but then we had to go to the back of the field to launch. Of course we had Sihang help us! We had a small launch pad and the teams took turns launching their rockets. There was a chief scientist, chief engineer and safety officer. I wanted to be the chief engineer but I didn't get to. Lots of rockets went really high and most of them went 13 - 16m but my teams rocket went 12m. I think my team was 2nd to last to launch our rocket. When we launched our rocket most of the fins and the cone came off. Something I learnt is that you can make a 1.5L plastic bottle fly in the air!

Be Internet Awesome!

Be Internet Awesome!

Hi Fishes!🐟

Today I'm going to write about the online game that teaches you what to do if you are being bullied on the internet! This game is called Interland - it has 4 islands which teach important information like what to do when somebody asks for your personal data. Interland teaches you about the danger on the internet by turning into a fun game. I made a infographic of all 4 islands using Canva.com to show you how the game works:

Basketball 2020

 Basketball 2020

Hi fishies🐟

Today I'm going to tell you about the basketball we have been doing! We do basketball on Wednesday every week. We have two coaches from Scotland their names were Mike and Ronan. I was really excited to play basketball and I learnt a lot of stuff from the coaches. My favorite part was when we got to shoot our balls in the hoop. We played three games, I'm not going to name them all but one was the basketball tag. Basketball tag is when the girls or the boys have a basketball and we dribble the balls around. And when we see someone we pick our balls up then tag them with the balls. I had so much doing doing basketball!

There will be groups of 4, 5 or even 6 students!  We all have different roles in our groups, some may even have 2 roles . The Wonder Rocket Project is from the Wonder Project. They design and change different places around the country and they are covered by STEM. We have Sihang as our ambassador to teach us about rockets and engineering.

Matariki☆

Matariki!
Kia ora fishies🐟
Today I'm going to talk about the Matariki activities I did. Matariki is the Māori new year, where they harvest crops, fly kites and share food with each other. The syndicate did 3 rotations first was making fried bread with Mrs Jones only using self raising flour and water!

We also did stop motion with Miss Daly, we had to create a scene or a Māori legend using play dough and colored paper then we filmed it. The last activity was making kites with Miss Law, we had to get stripes of white, black and red to draw Māori patterns using crayons or pastels. There were also helpers who made small kites to hand around the rooms. I loved celebrating Matariki it was really fun!

Cross Country 2020!
Talofa fishies🐟!
Thursday  the 2nd of July in week 12 the whole school had to participate in cross country, parents could come to! At 11:15 everybody had to get in their year groups on the court, then Ms Sands announced all the activities and what we were going to do. The first thing my group did was relaxing, we went under the tree and played on the playground. We also played fun games like jenga and ring toss! After we had done all the activities we played duck duck goose and did warm ups for the race. While we were warming up we had to cheer for the year 4 that were running. It was the year 5's turn the boys started first and the girls went 2nd. The top 5 girls and boys go to cross country zones but only the years 4-6. I came 5th place out of the girls!

Proudest Blue Response!

Proudest Blue Response!
Hey Fishies🐟
Today I'm going to talk about the Proudest Blue response I did in week 10! In my reading group we read a book called "The Proudest Blue!" Then we had to smurf a google doc called Group response-proudest blue, once we smurfed it we had to fill in the boxes like what we liked about the book and what we didn't like. I loved doing the group response because I got to write down what I liked about it and something I would change! I liked that the little sister tried to defend her big sister! But I didn't like how the little sister would count her steps.

Here's the link to my work😜: Link

Reading Activity

Reading Activity
Hello Fishies🐟
I'm going to talk about my reading activity I did! For my reading activity, I read an article about worldwide protests. Then I made a poster saying something like "Color doesn't matter" as a worldwide message. I also had to draw around the words and color it in. I made my words 3D and drew earth and some balloons in mine! I loved doing this activity because I got to create my own poster! The words I wrote were "Color doesn't matter, we are all the same" and I'm sure somebody has already wrote that phrase. My reading goal is evaluating and I got to practice that while reading the article.

Hoped you liked reading my blog, bye fishies🐟

Creative Writing!

Creative Writing
Kia ora fishes🐟! Today I am going to be talking about my creative writing I started in week 7! To do this we had to choose an image from a slideshow then we made a new doc and wrote about it. We had to make sure there were no spelling mistakes and we looked at simple, compound and complex sentences! I didn't use a compound sentence in my writing, all the simple and complex sentences were highlighted in orange! My story is about a child who gets captured by a witch!

Here is the link why don't you read it?😝:

Turtle Research

Turtle Research

Sawadikha fishies🐟! I hope you all are doing well. I would like to share my research about turtles today. I have been creating a new google slide and finding facts about turtle and their different kinds of species and what they eat. Did you know turtles can eat decaying flesh? I found a lot of interesting turtle species, some are named after continents, objects and even animals! Here are 5 different turtle species: Asian box turtle, soft-shell turtle, chicken turtle, cryptodira and mud turtles. I also found out what turtles eat but it depends on their species. Most turtles are omnivores but they eat over 300 food. Please click on the link below for more interesting information:

Nora's 2020 Portrait

2020 Portrait
Minglabar fishies🐟, the below image is the 2020 portrait I did in the class. The theme for our portraits was a decade between 1900's - 2000's. I chose to do the 1900's because I liked the Victorians era. On one side would be the drawing of the decade I chose and the other side would be a photo of myself glued onto the paper. Of course, I had to start in my art books but before I started I had to choose which side of my face was the bad side. When I finished drawing, I glued my face on the book next to the decade drawing to make a full face picture. I drew patterns around on the side of my face image. Then I had to colour them, and colour the background of the decade side. After that I transferred the drawing onto a big piece of painting paper. When I finished drawing I started to paint the patterns, glue my photo face on one side, then dye the background on the decade side. When finished all that I finally coloured in the decade face. This is My Portrait:

Getting To Know You

Hola fishies🐟, This Is my first blog post in 2020. This blog post is about getting to know me. To do this we used a template with different boxes for different categories about us. In these boxes we wrote about our family background, what we like to do, what are we good at and a few more of those, here is an example of all the boxes: The one chore that I do not like is doing the dishes. in our family loving each other is important. In my family we have 4 people and we are Asian, I am really good at writing, I have fewer friends than last year because a lot of them were year 3's, I want people to know that I am really good at maths. I also like cooking and writing so when my mum cooks, I take notes of what she does. In our getting to know you forms, we used different colours for each boxes and a different font for our names at the top box. We do this getting to know you form every year so that we can learn about each more and if some things change we can write it down next year!
