My understanding of a fable

My understanding of a fable

Hello everyone! Today's blogpost is about my understanding of what a fable is! A fable is a very short story for children and uses animals as the main character doing human-like things which is also called personification. A fable also has a moral in it so it can teach children different kinds of lessons. A fable also has to have a setting we all know such as the river or mountain. A fable is not only for moral telling but for entertaining as well. The plot and character has to be simple as well so its not hard to understand the story.

I am making a fable and the moral of my story is what happens in the dark comes to light which is what Dhar Mann uses as the moral of the story he makes. My plot is kind of simple and hard i think. Basically there is this one boy the dog who keeps making up excuses (without his parents knowing) to his teacher the wolf because he doesn't want to do homeworks and then one day the teacher rings his parents to find out why the boy hasn't been doing his homeworks. After the teacher found out the boy got in trouble and learned his lesson. That is my plan for the fable!

Lockdown Work This Week!

 Lockdown Work This Week

Salaam everyone. Today I am going to talk about even more interesting lockdown work! This week we has something different because instead of reading/writing we had code avengers! Code avengers is like doing reading activitys except there are courses and its easier. Code avengers didn't really link to writing if you ask me. And the slide layout was different because it's the layout from last years lockdown creations/slideshow!

Our teachers set 2 main courses but during this week I only finished one of the courses. Both courses have 10 activitys in it so I did 3 or 2 for each day so by friday every activity in the course is done. The courses were called computational thinking 1 and computational thinking 2. Maths was the same, with the maths board except we didn't have out own maths notebook instead we just used the lockdown creations to put warm up and main activitys on there, same with code avengers. There was another collumn called other. For other we had a mix of different activitys in different subjects. These are the things we had for other: fun sentences 1, fun sentences 2, did you know, nature art, card buildings. We also had some other stuff from last week like: lockdown highlights and lockdown projects so we can edit them!

I hope you enjoyed reading this blog post. Blog you later!

Lockdown Work!

 Lockdown Work!

Kia orana everyone!  Auckland has been in level 4 lockdown for 4 weeks! So I am going to talk about the school work I've been doing and my favorite parts of them! For Maths, Reading and Writing we have a task board for each subject. There is one big board that has the different subject boards on it. Maths is the only subject that has different group boards.

I don't really like lockdown because I don't enjoy sitting in my chair for too long. My favorite work from Maths for this week was probably the long shots for Maths because you get to play it with your family. Long shots is where you have a basket or box and a ball. You have to step 1 meter away to start and then throw the ball in the basket/box. If you get it in you step 1 meter further away and keep doing that until the ball doesn't get in the basket and the rest of your family does the same. Whoever is the furthest wins!

My favorite work from Writing this week was making the world's most disgusting sandwich because it was fun writing down a very weird and gross combination of food. Last main subject is Reading, my favorite work was the 3-2-1 where you have to read a story first and I chose Know Your Nutrients then you have to SMRF a doc and write 3 facts you didn't know, 2 things you found interesting and 1 thing you didn't understand! I found this quick and easy.

There were other subjects like Drama, Technology and Inquiry as well but I didn't do most of them, because I didn't enjoy these as I am not into dancing or play, and am not that motivated in home learning.

Matariki Reading Work!

 Matariki Reading Work

Kia Ora everyone!

For this Matariki post I am going to write about the Matariki Digital Learning Object (DLO) we have been making in reading for Matariki reading work. To make this DLO we could use either Book Creator, google slides or a google drawing. I chose Book Creator to do my DLO. We had to find facts about Matariki from one of the Matariki books we read. We had 3 questions to base our DLO on. The questions were what is Matariki?, how has the celebration of Matariki changed this century? and how and why we celebrate Matariki? My focus question was what is Matariki since it kind of covers everything.

For the question how has the celebration of Matariki changed this century we had to read books on the olden days of Matariki and find out what we do to celebrate Matariki in this century. For the question how and why we celebrate Matariki we had to find information on why we celebrate Matariki and different legends about it then find out how we celebrate Matariki and make a DLO about it. As i mentioned above the question what is Matariki kind of covered everything. We used what we already knew and started a DLO straight away, then we basically did the same thing as the other questions. I finished my DLO here is the photos of how it looks like:

Hope you enjoyed reading it blog you later!

Olympics: how it has changed

Olympics: how it has changed

Kia orana everyone! This DLO post I am going to tell you about the reading work we have done. Since the Olympics were on the teachers decided to do something about the Olympics in reading so we had to create a DLO about the Olympics. We had 3 topics to do our DLO on: "what is happening at NZ for the Olympics right now", "How the Olympics have changed from the ancient modern and present" and "what makes up the features of the summer Olympics". I chose how the Olympics have changed. We could either do our DLO on a google slideshow or Book Creator, I chose to use Book Creator.

We had to follow this success criteria:

Find important information about my topic.

Find information from a range of sources including one I have found by myself

Write information in my own words in my DLO

Include a clear heading and subheadings in my DLO

My layout is clear and easy to read

I have included relevant pictures to add interest to my presentation.

My information and ideas help my audience to understand the learning

My favorite part about doing this DLO was how I learnt different things about modern and ancient Olympics! Here is the photos of my book:

Wait for another post bye!

Procedural text!

Procedural Text!

Kia orana everyone! For this post I'm going to talk about the procedural writing we have done for writing. We learnt about what makes a procedure writing and how to make one. We could choose to either write about a cultural game or a normal game like tag. There were 6 steps to make a procedure writing we needed a title, quick explanation, what you need/equipment, numbered steps and a diagram. Here is my text:

The game I chose was a traditional Russian game called Stream. We watched a video of a mans daughter and son giving a procedural text on how to make PB&J and it went didnt go well. I learnt that sentences in procedural texts have to start with verbs and that it has to be extremely specific. After writing on a google drawing we had to publish it on a google doc, here is my final text:

STEM Week Waikowhai Student Led Toolkits

 Waikowhai Student Led Toolkits

Kia orana everyone. For this post I will be talking about how we had student led toolkits in our own school! Our school did this for STEM week which stands for Science, Technology, Engineering and Maths. This toolkit was pretty much the same as the one in Owairaka School, we had 3 sessions, lots of choices but the middle school was joining us. The people who went to the toolkit in Owairaka school but didn't present had to present for this toolkit. The presenters could choose whether they wanted to use the toolkit from the smackdown or make a new slideshow for one of the toolkit they went to. My friend Ayana and me were presenting Book Creator!

The first toolkit I went to was Piskel, Piskel is an website to make pixel art, you can also animate your pixel art! Piskel was in the room Haumia. The presenters for this toolkit was Zara and Josie. They told us everything about Piskel like how to use the colours and pen. They also tought us a hack to animating your pixel art! I made 2 pixel art, one was a moving skeleton mouth and a dancing skeleton. This was a fun toolkit and my second favourite!

The second toolkit we were presenting Book Creator. This toolkit was in the hall. Book creator is an website you can use to make books or comics! We explained what book creator was and how to use it. It was hard trying to get everyone to sign in becuase some people had problems loading the website. After explaining how to use Book Creator the students had 15 minutes to make their own book, our only rule was no violence. It was fun to present but we were nervous!

Third toolkit we had to present again. This time it went better then last time because we knew what to say this time and not many people had problems! Some people said they loved our toolkit and we also did some sharing time at the end if people wanted to share. Not many people needed help this time and even a teacher was surprised with this website!

This was a fun day and I would like to do it again I also think they should do this every term so we can learn lots of different fun websites, but the presenters have to be different each time so everyone gets a chance. Blog you later!
